Germany donates 1 billion Euros to The Global Fund

On Thursday in Davos, Switzerland, at the World Economic Forum, Germany announced that it will increase its overall financial contribution to The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria to 1 billion Euros. In a time when continued progress against malaria is largely dependent on sustained funding, the annoucement comes as welcome news. The Geneva-based Global Fund has provided 310 million insecticide-treated nets for the prevention of malaria since the financing agency’s inception in 2002 and has proven critical in the fight against the disease.
