On Kenyan island, fighting malaria with solar kits

Researchers have hatched a plan to install solar-powered mosquito traps on Kenya’s Rusinga Island. Nylon strips containing an artificial human odor lure mosquitoes to the trap where a solar-powered fan sucks the insects in. The trap is one part of an idea in which each Rusinga Island house is provided with sustainable electricity. The full set-up includes a rooftop solar panel, two light fixtures, and a charging point for mobile phones.
