Community-based approaches to preventing malaria in pregnancy in Kenya

Malaria in pregnancy (MiP) is a substantial contributor to maternal and newborn morbidity and mortality throughout malaria-endemic areas of the world. In Kenya, intermittent preventive treatment of malaria in pregnant women with sulfadoxine-pyrimethamine (IPTp-SP, referred to hereafter as SP) remains well below the 80% target level coverage articulated in Kenya’s 2013 National Malaria Strategic Plan (NMSP).
